Hi, I’m Leah (she/her).
Here’s what you can expect from me as a therapist - I prioritize authentic, caring relationships with my clients and take the time to understand my clients as best I can. I am down to earth, friendly, caring, direct, and have a good sense of humour. I am flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of my clients and will work with you to identify what it is you’d like to take away from your time in therapy.
I have a passion for working with people experiencing the effects of stress and trauma, addressing both major life experiences as well as accumulated stressors. My work incorporates a neurobiological understanding of psychological issues. I work from a trauma-informed, feminist perspective, and I use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), trauma informed stabilization treatment (TIST), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) as my main modalities.
My professional background includes working in non-profit organizations, residential treatment, private practice, and doing psychoeducational and psychological assessments. These have been invaluable experiences where I’ve worked with people from different walks of life experiencing vastly differing mental health and systemic challenges. I received my Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree at McGill University in Montreal studying Cognitive Science, and my Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology at Wayne State University in Michigan.
In my current phase in life, I’m enjoying spending time with my toddler, partner and dog, exercising, having fun and meaningful hangouts with friends and family, and being at work (yes, I am one of those people who genuinely enjoys their work… it really is an honour to get to know you and support you!).
